With nationally recognized faculty as experts in their field, our team is dedicated to student success by providing a strong foundation of knowledge, skills and abilities for employment in the health care field, industry and education graduate; as well as, entrance into graduate and professional schools. Our practice of integrating academic programs, which focus on nutrition, health, leadership, financial planning, consumer affairs, recreation, management, merchandising, exercise and human performance and aviation provides students and faculty with unique opportunities to collaborate and to promote interaction among students in different majors with a common focus on promoting excellence in their respective major.

The School of Health and Consumer Sciences is dedicated to improving the quality of life regionally, nationally and globally by fostering lifelong learners, conducting innovative research and teaching and delivering effective education and outreach.

SDSU associate professor receives federal grant to help reduce risk of sarcopenia

Lee Weidauer, associate professor in South Dakota State University's School of Health and Consumer Sciences, has received a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture to develop an exercise and nutrition program to reduce the risk of sarcopenia.

The career possibilities for athletic trainers in South Dakota are expanding thanks to the efforts of a South Dakota State University clinical assistant professor. Educating future athletic trainers in the SDSU School of Health and Consumer Sciences and serving as the president of the South Dakota Athletic Trainers’ Association, Mary Beth Zwart has made an impact on the profession and on her students.
