SDSU’s M.S. in data science ranked No. 4 in affordability, quality

The Master of Science in data science program at South Dakota State University received the No. 4 spot in a 2024 list by Tech Guide ranking quality and affordability of graduate degrees in data science. 

Considering the overall cost of the program and Data Science Council of America accreditation, SDSU’s data science program is among the top in the country.

The 30-credit program is a one-year graduate program aimed to be innovative, professionally relevant and valuable. Data science continues to be an in-demand field and is projected to grow even more. 

“It’s gratifying to see the SDSU Department of Mathematics and Statistics’ M.S. in data science program rated highly in this ranking,” Kurt Cogswell, head of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, said. “This confirms our ability to deliver an absolutely first-rate data science program at a small fraction of the cost of the programs offered by many other universities.” 

The SDSU M.S. in data science is a program that provides graduates with the statistical, mathematical and computational skills needed to meet the large-scale data science challenges of today's professional world. 

“This affordable program sends its graduates into lucrative, high-impact careers both regionally and nationally, and with an extremely wide range of employers in finance, health care, business, industry, government and research,” Cogswell said. 

In addition to the ranking by Tech Guide, this program has also received recognitions from Intelligent.com and Discover Data Science.
