Petitions

Some petitions require the signature from your college and/or your department or school.

• Locate the name of your College Dean, Associate Dean or Assistant Dean
• Locate the name of your Department Head or School Director

Notes from the Registrar's Office:

• Most petitions require one week processing after all signatures are complete.
• You will receive an email from DocuSign when your petition has been received and processed by the Registrar's Office.
• SDSU's email address format for school officials is @sdstate.edu. Student emails are @jacks.sdstate.edu.
• International Students: Please use the petition links designated for international students as they are set up to route to the International Student Affairs office to ensure verification of visa compliance.

Current Semester - Registration Petitions

Use these forms for petition requests for courses for the current term.

• Current Semester Late Add: Adjust credit hours or late add a course for the current term.
  • International Students only- Current Semester Late Add
• Current Semester Late Drop: Drop one or some but not all current term courses. This is to be used after the last day to drop for the semester. Check the term important dates.
  • International Students only- Current Semester Late Drop
• Drop with Refund: Request to drop one or some but not all courses with a full refund.
• Fourth Attempt of a Course: (Fourth or More Attempt of a Course) Request to repeat a course for more than 3 times. The petition must indicate the specific, open section (eg ENGL 101 S01, CRN 12345) you are requesting to add to your registration. The petition cannot be processed without the section information.
  • International Students only- Fourth Attempt of a Course
• Audit Form: Request to audit a course.
• Section Change: Change to a different section for the same course.
  • International Students only- Section Change
• Withdrawal Petition: To drop all courses in the current semester after drop deadlines.

Students withdrawing from the current semester must contact the Registrar's Office at 605-688-6195 prior to filling out the withdrawal petition form.

Previous Semester - Registration Petitions

Use these forms for petition requests for courses for previous terms.

• Previous Semester Late Add/Drop: Late add a course or drop one or some but not all courses from a previous term.
  • International Students only- Previous Semester Late Add/Drop
• Withdrawal Petition: To drop all courses in the previous semester.
• Academic Amnesty – Request academic amnesty on previous terms. Must not have been enrolled in any postsecondary institution for a minimum of three consecutive terms.

Degree Audit/Substitution Petitions

• Degree Audit: General Education (SGR's) or General Degree Requirements Substitution Form: Request to substitute a general education requirement on your degree audit.
