A reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at the Brookings Public Library, Cooper Room A. Mango Tree Coffee will cater light refreshments. All members of the community are invited to attend.

Berg, an SDSU alum and a former president of SDSU, was instrumental in restarting the AAUP Chapter at SDSU in September of 2004. SDSU had an active chapter in the ’70s that died out as the Council of Higher Education became the collective bargaining representative for faculty at the regental schools. The reformed chapter has been active on shared governance issues in the last few years.

The American Association of University Professors was founded in 1915, with John Dewey serving as its first president. The organization is the leading advocate for faculty in the nation. It has developed and espoused the concepts of academic freedom, shared governance and tenure in innumerable ways in the last 94 years.
