Prospective Students

Why go to college? Why now?

  • Recessions are temporary. Education is permanent. Earning a college degree makes you more marketable to prospective employers.
  • The skills you learn outside of your major will make you an asset to any work environment (i.e. communication, public speaking, writing, time management, organization and prioritization).
  • Your network of connections will grow exponentially. The people you meet in college, including fellow students, faculty and other staff, can open doors for you.
  • Colleges have free resources to prepare you to find the right career for you after graduation, such as on-campus job fairs, career centers and workshops.
  • College isn’t just about growing professionally. You’ll gain social experience, meet lifelong friends and learn a lot about yourself in the process.

Why go to SDSU?

  • Even in a recession, we are able to keep our overall costs low and competitive. Check out our yearly cost estimate.
  • We’ve got excellent scholarship and financial aid programs.
  • Despite the recession, some career fields are growing. We offer majors in many “in-demand” careers, including nursing, pharmacy and other health-care related disciplines, education and economics.
  • SDSU’s job placement rate for all majors has averaged 95 percent over the last several years.
  • We accept Advanced Placement credits for eligible students; so they have the potential to earn college credit before starting—and that saves money in the long run.
  • You can finish in four years or less. We offer opportunities for students to take up to 18 credits per semester as well as courses during the summer and online.
