The 11th annual Francis Miller Public Lecture in Cancer Research will be delivered by Keith Knutson at 7 p.m. in Herold Crest Room (253C) in the University Student Union on the South Dakota State University campus. Postpartum depression affects 15% of all childbearing women, and up to 10% will experience depression or anxiety during pregnancy.
Those numbers make it a rather common experience, yet the conditions remain a stigma for many, according to Stephanie Hanson, who is organizing Public Health Day presentations at South Dakota State University to raise awareness and offer hope to those who have experienced postpartum depression.
The free presentations are April 2 and include a lunch hour message by Hanson as well as a keynote address by a leading authority for postpartum mental health. In the evening, there will be a screening of a documentary followed by a panel discussion.
The South Dakota Art Museum at South Dakota State University will open its newest exhibition, “Termespheres: Without Beginning or End,” with a free public reception and artist talk from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, March 23. Artist Dick Termes will speak at 6 p.m., discussing the spherical paintings in this exhibition, known as Termespheres, and his process for creating them.
The South Dakota State University Concert Choir, under the direction of Laura Diddle and guest conductor Phillip Swan, will present a spring choral concert, “Untraveled Worlds,” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 22, at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center.
