Ronald J. LaVallee joined the flight test division of McDonnell Aircraft Co. of St. Louis, Missouri, following his graduation from South Dakota State College. He earned an M.S. in physics from St. Louis University in 1965. In 1969, he was assigned to the advanced concepts group of advanced aircraft design and was given management responsibility for a classified aircraft project. In 1977, he was promoted to branch chief of the advanced aircraft avionic system design where he integrated emerging electronic technology into advanced avionic systems. The new business items acquired through these efforts were significant contributors to the McDonnell Douglas Corp.’s position in high-technology enterprises. In addition, LaVallee volunteered for 15 years as a basketball, baseball and soccer coach for the Catholic Youth Association.
