Semester in the nursing major: Five

Advice for fellow students: It's important to take notes during lecture and if you don't understand something ask for help or clarification. I've learned that carving out time for reviewing what you learned in class that day will help the information stick. Make sure you keep a calendar or planner to help keep organized because nursing school gets a little crazy and you don't want to miss when things are due. Lastly, take time for yourself- go for a walk, whatever helps you to cope with stress-you need to take care of yourself. Stay focused and keep pushing through even when you feel like giving up! You can do it!

Future Goals: Eventually, I plan to get my master's degree after I have completed a few years of working as a nurse.

Why do you want to be a nurse: Personally, I've been surrounded by family members who have been in the medical field for years, and they have always talked about how rewarding and challenging the medical field is. I wanted to be apart of the nursing profession because I feel like I can make a difference in people's lives and help those in need to have a better quality of life.

Hometown: Worthington, Minnesota

Anything else you would like to share: The South Dakota State University nursing program is great! I would recommend this program to anyone who would like to get a quality nursing education. Personally, there were a few times in nursing school where I was really sick and I wasn't able to attend class or participate in clinical due to an illness. The nursing faculty and staff were very helpful and understanding of my situation. They worked one-on-one with me to make sure I was successful in pursuing my nursing degree. And if it wasn't for their continued support, I probably wouldn't be graduating in December with my dream of being a nurse. I can't thank the nursing staff and faculty enough, and everyone who has been there for me through the ups and downs of my life. I can say the SDSU nursing program is the best! Go Jacks!
