#MeetSDStateNursing—Keeley Fischbach

Keeley

Meet B.S.N. student Keeley Fischbach. A longtime Jackrabbit fan and Warner native.

What motivated you to choose a career in nursing? Growing up, I had to watch my grandmother go through the struggles of breast cancer for so many years. I saw the amazing work the nurses and all medical staff were able to do to make the situation she was in more positive. Seeing the ups and downs, I knew that I wanted to be just like those nurses that have helped my loved ones in so many different ways.

Why did you choose SDSU to pursue your nursing degree? South Dakota State University has always been a part of my life. I have always been a Jackrabbit fan, both athletics and academics. The SDSU nursing program is well-known for the great education, professors and life-long learning.

What clinical experiences have you enjoyed the most and why? I have enjoyed my fourth semester clinical so much. The NICU and labor and delivery is what I have always been intrigued in, and seeing what nurses do first-hand has been nothing short of amazing.

Organizations that you are involved in: I am a nursing student ambassador and involved in the Student Nurses' Association.

Is there a particular field of nursing you are planning to pursue? NICU/Labor and delivery.

What is your big dream? My goals are to work for a couple years in the NICU in Sioux Falls and then move to travel nursing so I am able to see the world while doing what I love.

What advice would you share with a future nursing student? Make time for yourself. Being a nursing major is hard but rewarding work. It takes a lot of commitment, but taking time for yourself is just as important.
