Larry Jenkins

Graduate program: Larry is in the postgraduate certificate program, nurse educator specialization. He graduated in May 2017 with a Master of Science in Nursing from SDSU with the clinical nurse leader specialization.

Anticipated graduation date: December 2019

Prior nursing education:  Associate Degree in Nursing⁠ (Garden City Community College), Bachelor of Science in Nursing⁠ (University of Kansas), Master of Science in Nursing⁠ (South Dakota State University).

Current position: Larry is faculty at Garden City Community College Nursing Department, PRN CNL and Flex team St. Catherine Hospital -Centura Health.

Organizations that you are involved in: Larry is a board member for LiveWell Finney County⁠—an organization to improve all aspects of health for Citizens of Finney County Kansas. He is also on the City of Garden City Buffalo Dunes Golf Advisory Board and the Garden City Community College Faculty Senate⁠—Technical Education Faculty Senator.

Advice for fellow students: Larry suggests, getting to know your professors as they are a wealth of information, and they have a desire to see you improve and succeed. He said "Even as an online student they are always available by email or phone."

Future Goals: Larry's future goals are to pass his Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) exam and work daily to become a better educator. He also plans to continue to assist St. Catherine Hospital in quality and safety projects using his CNL education, and improve his golf game.

Why do you want to be a nurse: No great story, my parents (Mom a SDSU grad) always taught me growing up to do for others. I have a background in biology and enjoy being around people so the nursing profession became a logical fit.
